Expanding Job Opportunities for People with Disabilities

In the state of Illinois, only 35% of people with disabilities are employed. For adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities, that number drops to just 9%.  That is why Search, Inc. is committed to expanding employment opportunities for people with disabilities.  Over 40% of its permanent Planet Access Company workforce is comprised of individuals with disabilities.

Planet Access Company furthers the mission of Search by providing employment opportunities to individuals with disabilities.  The company employs up to 70 individuals with disabilities annually in paid, train-to-work opportunities, including product assembly, order processing, and materials handling. Train-to-work employment allows individuals with disabilities to earn a wage while they gain valuable work experience.

Planet Access Company also offers a specialized transition program for high school students with intellectual and developmental disabilities.  This intensive 12-week training program is offered in collaboration with local school districts at no cost to participants.  After completing the program, individuals can take advantage of the job development and placement services that Search offers.

Opening Doors to Community Life
